Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social group?

We have tried to represent our certain social groups through a variety of mediums, one of which being the age of our characters. Our two main characters are both middle aged males, I believe this helps to represent our target audience of 18-40 year olds, by giving our film a more mature feeling. Other films similar our own have also used male middle aged main characters such as Pulp fiction, No country for old men and Reservoir dogs.

Another way we have represented social groups is through our main characters personalities, they are both "tough guys". I believe by giving our characters this personality it will appeal and perhaps represent our target audience. There are various examples of tough guys in action and crime thrillers such as Samuel L Jacksons character in pulp fiction "Jules Winnfield", the tough guy is almost a pivotal part in a crime thriller as he is often percieved as the hero.

We have used music in our titles, I believe the music used is very representative of social groups. The music used is calm and non intrusive which conflicts greatly with the scenes unfolding on screen, it is almost ironic as there is music we would associate with peacefulness playing over images of violence. I feel this is representative of our main character who is clearly a Psychopath, as he smiles whilst inflicting pain upon the cashier in the bank.

Camerawork is also effective in representation, as you can see above our character is in a mid shot of him smiling. The fact that he smiles in the situation at hand shows what kind of person he is, which is obviously a twisted man. I believe that the shot represents that violence is something that will shock and entertain our audience, and perhaps is representative of our target audience.
