In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge and conventions of real media products?
We have developed our conventions by adding clear stereotypical conventions of action films such as we had scenes typical of crime thrillers such as we had a bank robbery scene,this is a typical occurrence in a crime thrillers.
We also followed a convention of Quentin Tarentino films by starting our film off around a table which is similar to Reservior Dogs and Pulp Fiction, also our two main characters are discussing there plan to stage a robbery which is also similar to Pulp Fiction. I feel by following the conventions set by our inspiration Tarentino we will find it easier to reach our goals which is an opening sequence which fits our genre of crime thriller.
Another way we developed a convention was through costume, one of our characters is wearing a costume very similar to that of some characters in reservoir dogs.I feel this helps not only makes our film more believable, but will also give the audience an idea of what the character is like.
As you can see in these two screenshots the characters are wearing similar clothing,most importantly the sunglasses, which are an iconic accessory to gangsters and criminals in movies.
We used sound to develop upon our conventions, we used a calm unintrusive song during the opening sequence, similar to that of reservoir dogs. I feel that song played in the crime thriller genre are usually of a calm nature to almost, level out with the action on screen. There is also an ironic nature to this, as it makes you relate calmness with the violence on screen perhaps giving an insight into a characters psychotic personality.
Another way we followed conventions was through our titles, we used titles similar to that which is found in Pulp fiction and Reservoir dogs, as there title scenes are quite simple we have followed this convention. By keeping our titles simple we have followed in the example set by our inspirations, I feel they have made there titles simple as too not make there films too overblown and unsophisticated.
